sustainable development
When applied to the 24 Hours of Le Mans, CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) refers to all the actions conducted by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest and its partners to make the event more sustainable, inclusive and accountable. The aim is to make the 24 Hours of Le Mans an international model of sustainable motorsport, where performance goes hand-in-hand with responsibility.
Since the club was founded in 1906, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest has always placed the values of solidarity and mutual aid at the heart of its development. The ACO has now formalised its commitments to sustainable development with a three-pronged approach known as “EngageMans”: ENGAGEMANS FOR THE PLANET, ENGAGEMANS FOR A RESPONSIBLE ECONOMY, ENGAGEMANS FOR ALL
The ACO’s CSR policy applies across the entire Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans and in all our actions (waste management to increase recycling, greater reliance on local suppliers, presence of associations at the events, invitations to young students attending schools in Le Mans and the surrounding areas, reduced carbon footprint on the track through greener fuel and tyres, the Green Ticket, etc.).
The 24 Hours of Le Mans CSR policy boosts the local economy by supporting business, associations and jobs in La Sarthe. It promotes the area through sustainable social, educational and environmental actions. This approach makes Le Mans a model of responsible development combining sport, innovation and firm local roots.
Race to 2030 is the name of the ambitious plans upheld by the ACO and the 24 Hours of Le Mans to address climate-related concerns. ACO aims to cut CO2 emissions by 30% by 2030 and to contribute to projects designed to reduce the equivalent of the remaining emissions.
The Sustainable Endurance Award by DHL is a prize created in 2021 by the ACO, the FIA WEC and DHL. It rewards teams entering the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the WEC for their initiatives in terms of sustainability and social and environmental responsibility.
Since 2023, participation is mandatory for all teams.
Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque helps children from developing countries who are in need of a heart operation to receive care. Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque is a charity organisation supported by the ACO and the 24 Hours of Le Mans for over 13 years. This partnership has helped save the lives of more than 145 children by financing vital heart surgery.
In 2024, the 24 Hours of Le Mans obtained ISO 20121 certification, which recognizes responsible and sustainable management of major events.
The ACO has also received FIA three-star environmental accreditation, the highest distinction awarded by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile. These achievements reward the efforts undertaken to reduce the carbon footprint, encourage the circular economy and promote sustainable innovation.
The ACO has also signed a Charter comprising 15 eco-responsible commitments drawn up by the French Sports Ministry and WWF France.

Each action scores points and the players enter draws every night with a chance of winning exclusive prizes.
IMPACT CHALLENGE is a different way of enjoying your time at the 24 Hours of Le Mans while showing your commitment to social responsibility.
For several years, the ACO has been working with the Restos du Cœur food bank charity to collect surplus food and distribute it to people in need.
This produce is collected from restaurant owners and caterers at the circuit and from the teams in the paddock.
The ACO strongly encourages restaurant owners and caterers to adopt farm-to-fork solutions and increase the proportion of food supplied by local producers on their menu. All eateries now offer a vegetarian option.
Restaurants have also made arrangements to welcome diners with disabilities.
Paprec is the company responsible for waste management at the 24 Hours of Le Mans site all year round.
The ACO and Paprec share the aim of achieving 80% material recovery for the waste generated at the circuit (and just 20% energy recovery).
Over 2,000 new waste sorting containers have been installed for this purpose. Spectators around the circuit can now place their waste in the appropriate bin.
